class=\"wp-block-verse\">Where are all the black angels?\nSpringing out of oceans\nRising from unmarked lots\nLoss scripted on their departure\nWhere are they?...Cause I know they should be here.\nThe vacancy they leave screams malicious epithets\nfrom the arches of institutions barred entry for centuries\n\nWere they forgotten?\nFierce in their flight, did I blink and miss them?\nMagnetic energy budding between each feather, are they just too divine?\nPerhaps they\u2019re just waiting on another plane,\nwaiting to be acknowledged for their existence.\n\nPlatitudes against reality,\nthe truth stings just as their absence.\n<strong>Where did you put the black angels?<\/strong>\nTheir mortality turned mythology,\npositions on earth laid to rest skyward\nWhere are those taken away?\nYes, Given new form but melanin exists here\nand in the afterlife\n\nMurals upon murals, frescos and reliefs,\nPainter, why do you despise its color?\nThat familiar brush of yours paints faces unfamiliar to mine\nGrandmother, grandfather\nAncestors from the first home\nWhere have you gone?\n\nI feel the breadth of your soul beat like steel drums\nRing like thunder and lay me to sleep upon feathery beds\nYou are here, not because I imagine it\nbut because you were true.\n\nSo I ask Where are All the Black Angels?\nForced past humanity then never depicted humanely\nPainter if you painted with love,\nIf your brush knew the strokes of B-L-A-C-K,\nwhy do I not see them?\nWhy can I not find them?\n\nQuestions of their disappearance\nPosters with their missing faces\nWe will take matters into our own hands and turn grief into reclamation\n\nWE paint with love,\nnot how you claim, but actually for that has always been our domain\nOur profile starts with browns and continues infinitely\n\nWe will bring our black angels home.\n\nRightfully so because their place is cemented in heirs,\nAcross time, in our souls, and the walls of family houses\nOur canvas and archways shall know the contours of their skin.\n\nDraped in gold, spotlighted by majestic sun,\nDefined and empowered\nHow could our angels have been anywhere but the center?\n\nBreaking up the foul ground\nWe will follow the course of our oral history\nMaking picture books of generational stories\nPainting dearly departeds of the first century and those whose sun set recently\n\nNot soon enough, we will know exactly where our black angels are.\nConjured before us because they are us,\nInvite them down from their ancestral plane,\nAcknowledge them with our brush.\n\nWe, painters with souls, brown as skin,\nWill always \u201926&nbsp;\n\nEverytime I come home it feels like I never left.\nI\u2019m fifteen again and that look in my\nMom\u2019s eyes makes me cry and rage.\n\nEyes heavy with sleep before a 9 AM,\nI walk past the same tree everyday\nIts root are strong\nSo it bears the seasons, tall and firm.\nred then naked then green.\n\nSometimes I feel irrationally\nscared of the dining hall.\nAnd my phone.\n\nMy friends are in my shoebox room,\nI introduce my plants and posters.\nLaughter bubbles out of us\neasily in this moment.\n\nThings were only ever beautiful\nbecause I decided that they had to
