Forces video embeds contained in dropdowns to have a size --><style>.dropdownizer__dropdown iframe { width: 100% !important; height: 100% !important; }<\/style>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Article 129-A of the New York State Education Law requires the formation of a campus committee at the college to address specific safety related matters set forth in the statute. The following Annual Report serves to report Vassar\u2019s efforts in safety-related topics designated to the Campus Safety Advisory Committee in accordance with New York State Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Formation of Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Section 6431 of the NYS Education Law requires that the President of each college appoint an advisory committee on campus security.&nbsp; The committee must consist of at least six (6) members, at least half of whom shall be female.&nbsp; In addition, one-third shall be appointed from the faculty, and one-third shall be appointed from the students through VSA, and one-third shall be selected by the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Campus Safety Advisory Committee for 2023-2024 was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><th><strong>Name<\/strong><\/th><th><strong>Type of Appointee<\/strong><\/th><th><strong>Gender<\/strong><\/th><\/tr><tr><td>Arlene Sabo Director of Campus Safety \u2013 Chair<\/td><td>Appointed by President<\/td><td>Female<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Jennifer Herrera Deputy Title IX Coordinator&nbsp;<\/td><td>Appointed by President<\/td><td>Female<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Connor Dalgaard<\/td><td>Appointed by VSA \u2013 Student<\/td><td>Male<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Karolina Naidon<\/td><td>Appointed by VSA \u2013 Student<\/td><td>Female<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Mark Emerick<\/td><td>Appointed by Faculty<\/td><td>Male<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Shay Humphrey General Counsel<\/td><td>Advisory Only<\/td><td>Female<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Review of Policies and Procedures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee has held three (3) meetings for the purpose of reviewing and making recommendations for the improvement of the following Vassar policies and procedures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Educating the campus community, including security personnel and those persons who advise or supervise students, about sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking offenses and bias-related and hate crimes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educating the campus community about personal safety and crime prevention;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reporting sexual assaults, domestic violence, stalking incidents, and hate crimes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0Assisting victims during investigations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Referring complaints to appropriate authorities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Counseling victims; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responding to inquiries from concerned persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Findings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rules &amp; Regulations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New revisions to the NYS Education Law regarding Hate Crime and Bias Incident Reporting were reviewed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Hate Crime Policy drafts were reviewed and discussed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title IX Office \u201cGet Inclusive\u201d contract expires 12.31.24.\u00a0 The college may move to a new provider (Vector) at that time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training and documentation provided to new students at onboarding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Policies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reviewed draft CSAC Description for Dean of College webpage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draft Video Camera Policy and Posting Locations were reviewed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Updated Campus Safety Website for Hate Crime Policy &amp; Link to Reported Clery Statistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Discussion of need for additional lighting on campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussion of need for better signage and wayfinding on campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Recommendations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Revisions to the 2024- 2025 academic year onboarding and orientation materials related to hate crime and bias incident education and reporting for new Vassar community members<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revisions the Campus Safety webpage to include required Bias and Hate Crime educational information and links to the DOE Vassar College crime statistics page<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revisions to the Video Camera Use and Posting Policy for campus and gather input from &nbsp;the Committee on Campus Life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add language to the Fall 2024 Housing Agreement to ensure students agree to having seen the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report and Hate Crime Education<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review and revise Bias Incident Reporting and Hate Crime Policies for Fall 2024 for compliance with state and federal laws<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Update the MOU with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department pertaining to sexual assault and hate crimes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Form a \u201clight\u201d committee to optimize outdoor lighting on campus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review recommendations from the CRPG &nbsp;\u201csignage\u201d committee to ensure that visitors and community members can better locate buildings and travel on campus<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction Article 129-A of the New York State Education Law requires the formation of a campus committee at the college to address specific safety related matters set forth in the statute.
