Assessment and informational interviewing are two great career exploration tools. In addition, we recommend the following selected online resources:
Spotlight on Careers
Spotlight on Careers provides an excellent series of guides about career fields that are popular with liberal arts students. Each guide is organized similarly, and includes an introduction, as well as information about career options, and trends. There are also sections on Jobs and Internships, Graduate School, and real life professional stories in Alumni Profiles. Off-campus access to Spotlight requires a password; email firstname.lastname@example.org for log-in information.
Occupational Outlook Handbook
The Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, contains a wealth of information about careers and occupations, including information about education requirements, salary, projected growth, and the day-to-day experience of working specific professions.
The O*NET Online is a resource similar to the Occupational Outlook Handbook that also enables you to search for occupations by skill sets and more.
Vault’s Career Insider
Vault’s Career Insider is comprehensive online career resource which includes downloadable Career Guides and Industry Guides for a wide variety of career fields.
