If a student withdraws from a course, a WD will appear on the transcript. In order to initiate this process, a student must first schedule an appointment with their class advisor by calling the Dean of Studies Office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRegister for more than 4.5 units (overload)\n<\/summary>\n<p><strong><em>For questions regarding overloads, please email&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:CLP@vassar.edu\" target=\"_blank\">CLP@vassar.edu<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Full-time students may register for a maximum of 4.5 units without special permission. Students may petition the Committee on Leaves and Privileges to register in more than 4.5 units. These requests are considered by the Committee on Leaves and&nbsp;Privileges.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overloads are granted in rare cases, typically when there is a demonstrated need based on extenuating circumstances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First-year, first-semester students are not permitted to overload.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requests to take more than 5.5 units are highly unlikely to be approved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overload requests are not considered during pre-registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overloads are typically not granted for students&nbsp;returning from a semester of leave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/232254198969067\">Committee on Leaves and Privileges (CLP) Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRegister for less than 3.5 units as a full-time student (underload)\n<\/summary>\n<p>Full-time students must register for a minimum of 3.5 units without special permission. Students who, for documented reasons, need to take a reduced course load for one semester may petition the Committee on Leaves and Privileges to register in less than 3.5 units.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/232254198969067\">Committee on Leaves and Privileges (CLP) Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest transfer credit\n<\/summary>\n<p>Coursework that may be eligible for transfer credit can include coursework taken prior to a student's matriculation at Vassar, as well as coursework done on a Vassar, approved year studying abroad, a domestic academic leave of absence, and summer coursework that has been taken at other institutions. With the exception of pre-matriculation coursework, students are expected to have courses pre-approved for transfer credit if they plan to take them at institutions outside of Vassar.<\/p>\n\n<p>Courses taken before matriculation, during a year studying abroad, or a domestic academic leave of absence are processed through the dean of studies office. Summer coursework taken at other institutions are processed through the&nbsp;<a href=\"\/registrar\/academic-information\/\">registrar's office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Pre-matriculation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>First-year students can receive up to six units of pre-matriculation&nbsp;transfer credit in total.&nbsp;Transfer students can transfer up to a total of 16 units including international or domestic study away.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Exams<\/strong>\u2014transfer up to two units of exam credit including IB, AP, CAPE, Arbitur, A-levels and French Baccalaureate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>College courses<\/strong>\u2014college or university courses that were taken while attending high school may be considered for up to 6 units.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The course must be completed at an accredited institution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The course must be taught by a qualified college instructor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The course must not be listed on the high school transcript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/233135826626054\">Pre-matriculation Transfer Unit Request Form<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>International or Domestic Study Away<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Before embarking on a study away students should contact the chair of departments for which courses taken may be transferred back to Vassar for pre-approval whenever possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nChange graduation year\/Accelerate or decelerate degree\n<\/summary>\n<p>Students who are planning to complete their degree requirements before May of their initially&nbsp;assigned class year should consult with their major advisor and&nbsp;submit an Acceleration Form to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:CLP@vassar.edu\" target=\"_blank\">CLP@vassar.edu<\/a>. Class year reassignments (i.e., reclassifications) for students with insufficient credit for their prior class standing are typically made in June.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/232254198969067\">Committee on Leaves and Privileges (CLP) Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nDeclare a double major\n<\/summary>\n<p>Students wishing to apply to the Committee on Leaves and Privileges for permission to complete a double major, in which they fulfill all the requirements of two fields of concentration, may do so after completing two courses in each field and obtaining the permission of the appropriate advisors and department chairs.<\/p>\n\n<p>Generally, students seeking a double concentration are expected to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have a good academic record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present a clear statement to the committee indicating the academic advantages expected from the study in the two proposed fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have successfully&nbsp;completed two courses in each of the two proposed fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Ordinarily, no more than two (2) units of course overlap will be&nbsp;allowed between the two majors.<\/p>\n\n<p>The deadline for declaring a second (or third) major is the end of the pre-registration phase 1 period before a student\u2019s final semester.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/222063576227960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Double Major Request Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nTake a leave of absence or withdrawing from Vassar College for personal or medical reasons\n<\/summary>\n<p>A student may request a nonacademic leave of absence for medical or personal reasons. This could be a request for an immediate leave within a semester or a prospective leave for one or two future semesters. For more information please contact the dean of studies office to set up a meeting with your class advisor.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nReturn to Vassar after withdrawing from the college\n<\/summary>\n<p>A student who seeks readmission after having withdrawn in good standing may reapply to the dean of studies, who will bring the request to the Committee on Readmission. To apply for readmission, a student should write a full letter application before March 15 of the year of intended fall reentrance, or by December 1 for reentrance in the second semester.<\/p>\n\n<p>A student whose withdrawal has not been voluntary, or about whose readmission there are special questions, should address any questions to the dean of studies.<\/p>\n\n<p>The college tries to accommodate the student who wishes to resume interrupted study if it is felt that the student is ready to return.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest a yearlong course exception\n<\/summary>\n<p>Vassar requires hyphenated courses to be taken in sequence. After passing&nbsp;the first semester of a yearlong course students automatically receive a grade of WP. If a student does not complete the second half of the course the first half of the course remains WP and there is no credit for that course. Committee on Leaves and Privileges will consider exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n\n<p>Some Examples:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Credit for first half without completing the second half of the year-long course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit for the second half of a yearlong course after taking the first half equivalent somewhere else.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking a spring course before taking the fall course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"\/deanofstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2020\/03\/CLP-form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/232254198969067\">Committee on Leaves and Privileges (CLP) Form<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest a Foreign Language Culture Substitution (FLS) to fulfill the Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement\n<\/summary>\n<p><strong>To request a Foreign Language Culture Substitution as an accommodation &nbsp;please:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Register with the Office for&nbsp;<a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"\/accessibility-and-educational-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accessibility and Educational Opportunity<\/a>&nbsp;(AEO).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request a FLS accommodation from AEO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>File a request with the Committee on Leaves and Privileges through the Dean of Studies Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><em>The Committee on Leaves and Privileges will only consider Foreign Language Substitution (FLS) requests from students who have secured an AEO Accommodation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/232254198969067\">Committee on Leaves and Privileges (CLP) Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest to fulfill the Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement as International Student\n<\/summary>\n<p><strong>To request completion of the Language Proficiency Requirement as an international student you must meet all of the below<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>you are an international student who attended high school&nbsp;outside of the United States<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your first language is not English<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you&nbsp;completed formal academic coursework of your home language during high school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>For questions regarding this process, please contact the Assistant Dean of Studies in the Dean of Studies Office.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/242346183729058\">Language Requirement Request Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nTake a regularly scheduled final exam at a different time\n<\/summary>\n<p>It is each student's responsibility to take regularly scheduled final examinations at the times indicated. Only under exceptional circumstances will a student be permitted to take a final examination at a time other than that which is indicated in this schedule, and the class advisers in the Dean of Studies Office can only authorize these exceptions. Note that faculty may not, on their own, authorize students to take a scheduled final examination at a time different from the one assigned by the Registrar.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nLate Add (Add a course after the add deadline)\n<\/summary>\n<p>The deadline to add full-semester and first six-week courses is September 9, 2025. To petition for a late add, you must submit the form below by September 23, 2025.<em> Please contact your class advisor in the Dean of Studies Office for questions, concerns and for final approval.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Your major advisor and course instructor will need to approve of your form and then you will be required to meet with your class advisor in the Dean of Studies Office.&nbsp;Petitions for late adds are not automatically granted but will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. <strong>The Dean of Studies Office will not accept late add forms for full-semester courses after the end of the third week of classes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/220403874254957\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/220403874254957\">Late Add Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nDrop a course after the deadline\n<\/summary>\n<p><em>The Dean of Studies Office will consider late drop petitions through the end of the eighth week of classes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>The deadline to drop a course was the end of the sixth week of classes. On rare occasions, the Dean of Studies will consider&nbsp;a late drop after the deadline. For the majority of cases, students should see the process for completing a&nbsp;student initiated&nbsp;withdrawal. To petition for a late drop after the deadline, students must first schedule an appointment with their class advisor by calling the Dean of Studies Office.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/222774700035046\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/222774700035046\">Late Drop Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nReport a violation of academic integrity\n<\/summary>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?VassarCollege&amp;layout_id=3\">Academic Integrity Incident Reporting Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest to repeat a course\n<\/summary>\n<p>Students who wish to repeat a course in which they received a deficient grade (C- or lower) must petition the Dean of Studies. The deadline to request a repeat course for the fall semester is September 9, 2025.<\/p>\n\n<p>Please note, transfer coursework does not count into the Vassar GPA and cannot apply to the course repeat policy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The following rules apply:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a course is repeated, both course grades will appear on the transcript, however, only the second iteration of the course will factor into the GPA and receive credit. The transcript will indicate the repeated course with a notation on the second iteration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will be permitted to repeat a maximum of two courses over the course of four years of study (8 terms). Transfer students will be allowed to repeat one course per two years of study.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students may not repeat a course if they have already passed a more advanced course in the same sequence or content area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/ctrocino\/repeat-course-request\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/ctrocino\/repeat-course-request\">Repeat Course Request Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details class=\"dropdownizer__dropdown\"><summary>\nRequest Religious Accommodations\n<\/summary>\n<p>Faculty should complete this form after an agreement between the faculty member and a student has been made regarding accommodations for religious holidays or observances.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vassar.jotform.com\/251903913584057\">Religious Observances During Class Times Form<\/a><\/p>\n<\/details>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student Initiated Withdrawal A student may request a student initiated withdrawal from a class through the ninth week of the semester, provided they do not fall below 3.5 units.
