However, relatively low cost solutions are possible that can directly address many local and global environmental problems. In this talk, Bryan Quinn, founder and principal of One Nature LLC based in Beacon, NY will describe several built examples of vacant lots that his company has transformed to ecologically productive places.\u00a0One Nature uses regenerative design principles to change the future of these lots by turning them into better appreciated community gardens, pollinator gardens, or public parks.\u00a0<br><br>The talk is hosted by the Environmental Cooperative and has been funded in part by a grant from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund through the Hudson River Estuary Program of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Kass Urban-Mead, a PhD student in Cornell University's Entomology Department, will demonstrate how this is true for bees of the world, and how trees can help city-bees thrive in a fun and insightful workshop at the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory.&nbsp;Some of our most interesting wild bees are particularly solitary spring&nbsp;bees&nbsp;that pollinate fruit&nbsp;trees, street trees, gardens, and wild plants alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop will move \"beyond wildflower strips,\" and instead identify resource-rich&nbsp;trees&nbsp;and shrubs used in bioswales and as street trees that have cultural and aesthetic value, filter water, and stabilize soil. Kass will explain trees' often-ignored benefits to pollinators, using 'bee&nbsp;networks' to think about times and places where 'bee&nbsp;trees' could be added to support wild&nbsp;bee&nbsp;pollinator communities.
