Forces video embeds contained in dropdowns to have a size --><style>.dropdownizer__dropdown iframe { width: 100% !important; height: 100% !important; }<\/style>\n<p><strong>RECOGNITION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Olga Bush<\/strong>, Visiting Scholar of Hispanic Studies, was nominated as one of four finalists for the\u00a0<strong>College Art Association'<\/strong>s 2019\u00a0<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.collegeart.org\/news\/2018\/11\/29\/finalists-for-the-2019-morey-and-barr-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Rufus Morey Book Award<\/a><\/em>\u00a0for distinguished work in art history for her volume,\u00a0<em>Reframing the Alhambra: Architecture, Poetry, Textiles and Court Ceremonial\u00a0<\/em>(<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/edinburghuniversitypress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edinburgh University Press<\/a>, 2018).\u00a0A presence at Vassar since 1983, Professor Bush has taught in Art History, Hispanic Studies and Africana Studies, and also holds the appointment of Visiting Associate Professor of Islamic Art at Bard College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mita Choudhury<\/strong>, Professor of History, is co-editor of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk\/books\/isbn\/9781786941428\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Belief and Politics in Enlightenment France<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0newly published by\u00a0<strong>Liverpool University Press<\/strong>\u00a0(2019)\u00a0for\u00a0its\u00a0<em>Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment<\/em>\u00a0series.\u00a0Co-edited with Daniel J. Watkins of Baylor University, the volume examines how Jansenist belief shaped enlightenment ideas, cultural identities, social relations and politics in France throughout the eighteenth century.\u00a0Commissioned in honor of Dale K. Van Kley, leading specialist on religion and politics in the Old Regime and the French Revolution, these\u00a0essays challenge the idea of an inherent opposition between faith and Enlightenment, and illustrate how belief, Enlightenment, and Revolution coexisted and co-mingled in different contexts: politics and political culture, the social and cultural history of ideas, and the history of material culture.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Curtis Dozier<\/strong>, Visiting Assistant Professor of Greek &amp; Roman Studies, received the&nbsp;<strong>2018 Public Scholarship Award<\/strong>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wccaucus.org\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Women's&nbsp;Classical Caucus<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/classicalstudies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Society for Classical Studies<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;for his website&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/pharos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pharos: Doing Justice to the Classics<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Professor Dozier's Pharos platform&nbsp;documents and responds to hate groups' appropriations of Greco-Roman&nbsp;antiquity and has been covered in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/politics\/media\/2018\/07\/far-right-using-antiquity-re-brand-itself-classicists-are-fighting-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The New Statesman<\/em><\/a><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thebaffler.com\/latest\/myth-appropriation-feldblum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Baffler<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/how-latin-got-woke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Nation<\/em><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pshares.org\/index.php\/donna-zuckerbergs-not-all-dead-white-men-and-red-pill-reductionism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Ploughshares<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>&nbsp;and on the podcast&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/origins.osu.edu\/historytalk\/classicists-and-white-supremacists%20alt-right%20trump%20western%20civilization%20culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>History Talk: Origins<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barry Lam<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Philosophy, was selected by the\u00a0<strong>Whiting Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0as a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whiting.org\/scholars\/public-engagement-programs\/fellowship\" target=\"_blank\">2019-2020 Whiting Fellow for Public Engagement<\/a>.\u00a0The Fellowship will advance the technical and editorial caliber of Professor Lam's\u00a0successful philosophy podcast,\u00a0<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphination.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hi-Phi Nation<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0and focus an entire season on the myriad philosophical issues surrounding a single American institution: our justice system.\u00a0Distributed by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Slate<\/strong><\/a>, Hi-Phi Nation has garnered extensive praise for its compelling narratives and profiles that probe subjects ranging from the philosophy of statistics to just war theory,\u00a0making big ideas accessible and promoting philosophical literacy through deep thinking about the values that underpin our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bojana Zupan<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of Psychological Science, was granted an Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) by the\u00a0<strong>National Institutes of Health<\/strong>\u00a0(NIH) for her project, \u201cIntergenerational programming of dopamine neurotransmission by maternal fragile X protein\u201d, a \u00a0research effort that may lead to increased understanding of causes of autism and other such disorders.\u00a0Funded via the\u00a0<strong>National Institute of Mental Health<\/strong>\u00a0through NIH's\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/funding\/r15.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Research Enhancement Awards<\/a>\u00a0mechanism, the project will include several Vassar undergraduate students as collaborators in study of the developmental effects of deficiencies in maternal Fragile X protein, which has been linked to intellectual instability and other behavioral characteristics linked to autism.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upcoming Funding Opportunities: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MARCH 25:\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.vassar.edu\/eri\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Environmental Research Institute (ERI)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a research and public outreach wing of Vassar\u2019s Environmental Studies program. Experimentation, reuse, and extensibility are hallmarks of this program, leading to innovative work that can scale to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities.\u00a0Proposals are welcome for digital initiatives in any area of the humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a special partnership with NEH and pending the availability of appropriated funds, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) anticipates providing additional funding to this program to encourage innovative collaborations between museum or library professionals and humanities professionals to advance preservation of, access to, use of, and engagement with digital collections and services.
