Third-Party Data Security Incident May Have Affected Your Personal Information

We are writing to inform you of a recent data security incident (“PBI Data Breach”) that occurred at Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”). PBI is a vendor to TIAA, one of Vassar College’s employee retirement benefit plan providers. If you do not have investments with TIAA, you are unaffected and may disregard this notice.

Nature of Incident

The PBI Data Breach resulted in the possible exposure of some Vassar plan participants’ personal information (i.e., first and last name, address, date of birth, gender, and social security number). Vassar has not yet been informed of the specific information that was exposed; however, if your data was part of the breach, you will receive detailed information specific to you from PBI. It is important to note that the PBI Data Breach did NOT include, or provide exposure to, any of your TIAA financial information. TIAA has confirmed that their information systems were not compromised by this event.

What PBI Will Do

If your personal information was compromised in the PBI Data Breach, you will be contacted directly by PBI via US mail. PBI will provide you with two years of free credit monitoring to help protect your identity. The letter will include instructions and a unique code to register for the service. You can also call the number provided in the letter to learn more or ask about the credit monitoring service or any other questions you may have.

What You May Consider Doing

We know this kind of news can be worrisome. TIAA has asked that we extend their apologies for any inconvenience and uncertainty that this incident may cause you. If you have any questions, please respond to this email or contact
