Milo Jewett House

Built in 1907, Jewett was originally called “North” because of its position on the quad. Henry MacCracken, president of the College beginning in 1915, decided to rename the building after Milo P. Jewett, the first president of the college. Its most famous resident was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Edna St. Vincent Millay ’17, who allegedly threatened to throw herself from Jewett’s battlements. Extensively renovated in 2003 with enhanced living spaces and public areas, Jewett is home to 235 students.
