If you have any questions about how to support a survivor, please email the SAVP Office at <a href=\"mailto:savp@vassar.edu\">savp@vassar.edu<\/a>, call an SAVP Advocate at <a href=\"tel:+18454377333\">(845) 437-7333<\/a>, or email the Institutional Equity Office at <a href=\"mailto:equity@vassar.edu\">equity@vassar.edu<\/a>. Faculty may also connect with the Faculty Director for Institutional Equity, Jeffrey Schneider at <a href=\"mailto:jeschneider@vassar.edu\">jeschneider@vassar.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some ways to support a student survivor:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. Determine&nbsp;<strong>safety<\/strong>: If a weapon was used, the perpetrator is unknown, or the student does not feel safe from the perpetrator, call&nbsp;<strong>911<\/strong>&nbsp;or Safety &amp; Security immediately at&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"tel:+18454377333\">(845) 437-7333<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. Explain your&nbsp;<strong>reporting<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>responsibilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See&nbsp;<a href=\"\/savp\/reporting\/reporting-responsibilities\/\">Reporting Responsibilities<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are a responsible employee, you are required to notify the College\u2019s Title IX Coordinator of the disclosure.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To do so, you may email or call the Institutional Equity Office at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:equity@vassar.edu\">equity@vassar.edu<\/a>\/<a href=\"tel:+18454377924\">(845) 437-7924<\/a> or fill out an online notification form:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/go.vassar.edu\/report-discrimination\">go.vassar.edu\/report-discrimination<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/go.vassar.edu\/report-sexualmisconduct\">go.vassar.edu\/report-sexualmisconduct<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following your notification, a Title IX representative will provide outreach to the victim\/survivor. The victim\/survivor has the right to file a formal complaint as well as the right not to respond to outreach from the Title IX representative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a student would like to speak with someone without the Institutional Equity Office being notified, they may contact an SAVP Advocate or the SAVP Office (both college-designated confidential resources), who will fill out an anonymous form (with no names or identifying information) for Clery Act purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. Provide&nbsp;<strong>support<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Listen and thank them for trusting you.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Validate and empathize feelings and concerns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be non-judgmental.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mirror their language (i.e. Do they say victim or survivor? What pronouns do they use? How do they describe their experience?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the incident happened in the context of an ongoing relationship, do not tell them they need to immediately leave the relationship. Leaving a relationship without a safety plan is often dangerous.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow them to make decisions on the next steps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4.
