Vandalism
Dear all,
This morning we awoke to find extensive graffiti around and on Gordon Commons.
This act of vandalism is an affront to our community and is unacceptable. Vandalism is a violation of college policy and is a crime under New York State Law. Given that, and the extent of the damage to college property, we have contacted the police, and they are investigating in conjunction with Campus Safety.
Thank you to our Campus Safety and Facilities teams who have been working diligently on this since it was discovered.
If you have information that could be helpful in the investigation, please be in touch with Campus Safety. Students in need of support should reach out to the Dean of the College. We also encourage individuals to report incidents to the Social Identity Harm (SIH) Network.
We are committed to ensuring our campus is a place where all can thrive, and we are pursuing this thoroughly and in a way that is consistent with our policies. That includes working to identify those responsible and ensuring they are held accountable for their actions. We support dialogue and thoughtful protest. Vandalism is neither. The destruction of property creates significant work for many Vassar employees. I am grateful to the many people who will work to repair the building and foster community dialogue and healing in the wake of this act.
