While Data Governance defines the policies for data use, Data Management is the practice of following those policies.  Data Management encompasses the processes and practices of collecting, storing, organizing, protecting, and utilizing data to ensure its accuracy, availability, and security.  Data Management is crucial for a multitude of reasons. It underpins essential operations, from student records and academic research to alumni relations and fundraising efforts. Accurate data allows Vassar to:

  • Support academic research: Effective data management enables faculty and students to access and analyze research data, fostering scholarly inquiry and innovation.
  • Strengthen alumni relations: Maintaining up-to-date alumni information allows Vassar to stay connected with its graduates, facilitating fundraising, networking, and career development opportunities.
  • Improve administrative efficiency: Well-organized data streamlines administrative tasks, such as admissions, financial aid, and resource allocation, enabling the college to operate more effectively.
  • Ensure compliance and security: Proper data management safeguards sensitive information, protecting the college from data breaches and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
