Resources for Advisors
At Vassar, academic advisors are faculty members or administrators who take an active role in monitoring the academic progress of a student’s plan of study. Students and advisors work together to plan each semester and discuss future academic paths, with particular emphasis placed on depth and breadth of study. In addition to knowledge of the general and specific curricular elements set forth in the Catalogue, the Advisor’s Handbook, and the Schedule of Classes, advisors should be familiar with a student’s academic record and educational goals. An important part of the pre-major advisor’s job is to refer students to other resources, including faculty members of other departments and programs, academic support offices, counseling services, the Office of Community-Engaged Learning, pre-professional advisors and the deans’ offices. The resources below are provided to support all aspects of advising.
