Jennifer Masina Rubbo 
Director of the Environmental Cooperative

Jen Rubbo came to Vassar in 2015 with the inception of the Environmental Cooperative. She leads outreach and education efforts at the Preserve at Vassar and in the local community, training Vassar students to teach outdoor education.  Jen is a graduate of the  SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and spent several years involved in wetland research and management in the Southern and Mid-Atlantic United States before completing her Master’s degree in Ecology at Penn State University.  Before her position at Vassar, she coordinated the Fall Kill Watershed Committee for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and was an Education Program Leader at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.  In her role at Vassar, she has enjoyed connecting students with various groups in the City of Poughkeepsie and working with residents to increase engagement in the outdoors. 

Lindsay Dalton
Environmental Cooperative Program Manager

Lindsay Dalton came to Vassar in 2025 when the role of  Environmental Cooperative Program Manager was created. She coordinates the Cooperative's Exploring Science environmental education program. Lindsay is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz and also attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Before her position at Vassar, she managed youth and family programs at Historic Huguenot Street. In her role at Vassar, she enjoys working alongside Vassar students to increase awareness and appreciation of the outdoors. The best part of her role is teaching kids of all ages about the environment at the Vassar Preserve, in schools, and in the local community.

Interns

Vassar students have the opportunity to work with the Environmental Cooperative during the school year and over the summer through volunteering, work-study, and Community-Engaged Learning (CEL). These positions provide the opportunity for overlap with the Preserve at Vassar and the Office of Sustainability.

Communications Intern

The Communications intern works to engage a diverse group of students with the Preserve and the Cooperative.  They create content for social media, assist with the EcoVC newsletter, assist in website updates, create flyers for events and generally help to engage people in environmental efforts. They will work with the other work-study students on joint stewardship, monitoring, education, and outreach projects. This position works closely with interns and staff from the Office of Sustainability and the Preserve at Vassar.

Environmental Cooperative Intern

Interns assist with all aspects of programming and activities at the Environmental Cooperative. This includes assisting with community outreach, outdoor education programs, and natural areas stewardship. They will work closely with staff, teaching environmental science field trips to children from local schools and organizations on the Preserve and in local parks.
