Pet Policy

Vassar Faculty Housing
Effective June 20, 2023

Pets are permitted in Vassar faculty housing, under the following conditions:

1. No more than three cats can be housed in one apartment
2. No more than two dogs can be housed in one apartment
3. Dogs must be leashed on campus at all times, including on the Preserve at Vassar and on the Vassar Golf Course
4. All animal waste must be bagged and disposed of properly
5. All new tenants in faculty housing: At the initiation of the lease period, the lessee will pay a $500 non-refundable one-time fee for each dog that resides in the apartment and a $250 non-refundable one-time fee for each cat that resides in the apartment. The purpose of the fee is to cover additional cleaning costs that are necessary when the apartment is vacated and readied for the next tenant.
6. Existing tenants: when a new pet is added, a non-refundable one-time fee will be implemented as described above in #5.
7. If pets result in additional damage to an apartment—e.g. scratching or chewing of doors that require repair or replacement, repair of floors due to scratching or staining, etc.—tenants will be held responsible for these costs in addition to the one-time fee articulated above.
