- Learned to fence on a dare and then fell in love with the sport
- Did his graduate research in biomedical ethics
- Completed a post-doctoral fellowship in juvenile forensic and psychoeducational assessment
- Has two kids, two dogs, two cats, and zero idea how his wife talked him into most of that

Fun facts:
- I grew up in rural eastern Oregon where the town population is roughly equivalent to Vassar College.
- Among other things, I enjoy woodworking, random home renovation, and attempting to fix anything broken rather than replacing it.
- My wife and I share our living space with a dog and four cats who manage to tolerate each other as much as they do us. Such lovely creatures!
- I love maps! It’s a process of combining art and science to make data accessible and can be applied to almost anything.
