Campus Activities

Vassar College

Use of College Facilities

Off-campus and community groups interested in using the college’s facilities (*during periods of academic break) for gatherings, conferences, fundraisers, and summer programs should have a meaningful connection to the college’s central educational mission and/or match the college’s commitment to community engagement. All programs and activity requests will be reviewed by the Office of Campus Activities upon completion of the application. You will be contacted within 7 business days after receiving the application.

*Please be advised that the college will only approve requests for dates that take place during the academic break. This includes the winter interim break, spring break, summer break (with blackout dates for Reunion and Orientation), and fall break.

The request for use of college facilities will also be considered based on the following:

  • Description of the activity
  • Anticipated audience
  • Logistical needs of the event
  • Space availability.

A fully executed contract is required, outlining all terms of agreement, insurances and rental fees, and direct costs.

Weddings at Vassar

Vassar College students, alums, employees and immediate family members of those groups may be married on campus.

Eligible individuals interested in using College facilities for a wedding to be scheduled may submit their application for consideration. The Campus Activities Office will respond to all applications within 7–10 days.

The following is for weddings on the Vassar College campus. The Vassar College Alumnae House is another option and has its own policies. Please visit their website for more information.

Availability

The Vassar College Chapel and the Shakespeare Garden will be available for weddings on Saturdays at the discretion of the Campus Activities Office based on the Campus Calendar. Weddings and rehearsals will be scheduled at the convenience of the college so as not to conflict with campus events. Wedding Receptions are not allowed on campus. The Chapel must be available and used as your rain location should you select the Shakespeare Garden as your wedding location.

Scheduling

Wedding requests should be submitted through the Campus Activities office via our website by completing an online application. All applications must be fully completed and must include the names of the wedding couple, their Vassar connection and the requested date and time of the wedding.

Photography

Only those couples who have permission to be married on the Vassar Campus may take wedding photographs on the College grounds. Photographs should be taken in public spaces and should not inconvenience Vassar students or employees. Residential houses, and Vassar faculty houses are all off-limits for photographs.

Campus Access

Except for the taking of photographs, wedding parties and guests should stay on campus walkways. Wedding parties and guests are required to obey all on-campus traffic, speed limit, and parking regulations/signs. All guests should respect the privacy of the Vassar students and employees. Parking is allowed in the North and South lots. Vassar is a smoke-free campus; you are responsible to inform your guests and will be held responsible for violators.

The fee for use of the Chapel and/or Shakespeare Garden is currently $250. Additional fees may apply for additional services such as special setups or the moving of furniture.

Fees listed are subject to change.
