Exploring Transfer

Dream

  • In an ideal world, imagine what a program at your institution looks like? Be as specific as possible:
    • How many participating community college students?
    • What kinds of cross-institution faculty partnerships are possible?
    • Are student participant stipends, tuition vouchers, etc. possible?
    • How to balance the day(s) between academic, social, physical,  and support service discussions?
    • How would you evaluate the program?

 Inventory

  • Identify existing and needed community partners, this might include other 4 year institutions
  • Align with existing initiatives or offices
  • Inventory funding sources
  • Identify internal stakeholders needed for success; some examples include campus activities, housing, student employment, IT, cultural and community engagement centers, equity offices, or officers
  • Solicit interest from your own faculty

Design

  • Determine implementation timeline
  • Establish program learning outcomes
  • Collaborate with partner institutions
  • Engage faculty via professional development opportunities
  • Create a schedule of classes, social events, and support workshops
  • Plan evaluation instrument

Implement

  • Follow the monthly timeline steps to implement your design

Additional considerations

  • Engage any community college graduates at your institution as they will often be natural supporters
  • Determine whether the program would benefit from a steering committee
