Medical Clinic Billing
The Health Service is available to students of Vassar College regardless of their insurance.
Visits
There are no charges for visits to the medical clinic (this is covered by the health fee paid with your tuition).
Over-the-counter medications and supplies
The payment will be processed and charged to your VCASH.
Prescription medications
The Health Service carries commonly used medications. It does not operate as a pharmacy but as a dispensary.
If you have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- You may obtain a prescription to fill at a local pharmacy. You will then pay a copay at the pharmacy. (Please see insurance information for specific limits on yearly maximum.)
- If the medication is available at the Health Service you may obtain it here and the amount (generally comparable to a copay) will be charged through VCASH. You may request an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company for certain covered medications.
If you do not have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- You may request prescriptions to be e-prescribed to a local pharmacy.
- If we carry the medication at the health service, you may choose to obtain it here and payment will be charged through VCASH. You may request an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company for certain covered medications.
Lab work
We utilize Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp for outside laboratory services. It is helpful if you are familiar with your network's preferred lab prior to your appointment. If available, please notify the staff during your visit of your preferred lab at time of lab draws.
If you have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- The Health Service will supply the processing lab your insurance information so that the lab may bill the insurance company directly.
If you do not have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- Your insurance information must be provided to the Health Service at time of service in order for the outside lab to process a claim through your private insurance. You will then receive a bill directly from the lab for any copayment through your plan. Please be aware that at times, certain labs may not be covered under private insurances and the lab may send you a bill directly for services not covered under your plan.
Allergy Shots
If you have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- The charge for payment will be processed through VCASH at time of service. These low-cost procedures are not covered by the student health insurance.
If you do not have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- The charge for payment will be processed through VCASH at time of service. You may request an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Immunizations
If you have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- The charge for payment will be processed through VCASH at time of service. Certain immunizations are covered. You may request a copy of an itemized bill to submit to your insurance for resimbursement.
If you do not have the student health insurance offered through the college:
- The charge for payment will be processed through VCASH at time of service. You may request an itemized bill to submit to your insurance company.
Please note:
Vassar College Health Service can not guarantee where lab bills or other insurance documents such as explanation of benefits (EOBs) will be mailed. This is especially important for patients who are concerned about documentation being sent to home addresses and who wish to keep their medical information private. We recommend that prior to having any billable procedures performed, any concerned patient should reach out to their insurance company directly to address these concerns.
