The Vassar College Health Service strives to provide high quality, informed, easily accessible, confidential and sensitive care to all patients. Transgender and non-binary individuals have the same basic healthcare needs as cisgender individuals, but they may also require gender-affirming care. Transition healthcare needs can range from social-emotional support, education, medication management or surgical interventions. Our providers are committed to supporting and serving as a resource for transgender, non- binary and gender non-conforming students through consultation, evaluation and referral.
Services
Although we do not initiate hormonal therapy in our clinic, we can provide consultations and refer individuals to specialty care providers and support services. Some of our community partners for trans and non-binary healthcare include local endocrinologists, plastic surgeons, Dutchess County Pride Center, Callen Lorde Community Health and Planned Parenthood.

Lab Testing
If you need labs drawn to monitor hormone levels and other blood tests associated with your care off-campus, schedule an appointment with a Health Service provider. Your treating provider will need to send us the lab order requisition which we will review. We will then perform the blood draw, send specimens to a processing lab and will forward test results to the off-campus treating provider(s) once your consent is obtained. Please note that the processing lab and your health insurance plan may require your legal name to process claims. See our billing section for details.
Hormone Injections
If you need help administering testosterone injections, please schedule an appointment with our clinic. Nurses are available to assist with, and teach you how to, self-administer injections. You will need to provide your own injection supplies and medication.
Scheduling an Appointment
To make an appointment, call (845) 437-5800 during office hours. Most visits can also be self scheduled using our patient portal. Walk-ins are accepted in emergency situations. If you cannot make it at the scheduled time, please call and notify us.
Demographic Information
Demographic information, including your preferred name, pronouns and gender identity, can all be updated in your electronic health record by editing your profile in the patient portal. You can also update this information when using the self check-in process prior to a clinic visit. Health Service staff can also manually enter your information into the electronic health record system if you notify them of any changes.

The LGBTQ+ Well-Being Institute at The Community Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive, holistic wellness programming that affirms and uplifts all members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Institute’s work includes no-cost, culturally-responsive, short-term individual and group counseling along with a wide range of educational and wellness services to support individuals in living healthy and fulfilling lives.
