Reminders from Human Resources

September 11th Remembrance

All are invited to a 9/11 Remembrance Service this Thursday, September 11th from 9am-9:30am at the Peace Garden by Ely Hall. 

We will gather to remember the events of 9/11 and to stand together for peace. The service includes brief remarks, a moment of silence, and an opportunity for people to share their own remembrances. All are welcome.  

This event is sponsored by Human Resources, Religious & Spiritual Life and Contemplative Practices, Student Growth and Engagement and the President’s Office.

Professional Development: Newly Added

Supervising Union Employees
Monday, September 15th, 9-12pm, Old Laundry Building 314

This workshop will focus on supervising unionized employees. It includes an overview of the contracts on this campus, active practice navigating challenges and key areas where Human Resources can offer support. This workshop is intended for individuals who supervise union employees.

Tour start: Outside Facilities office

Join us for a guided tour of Vassar College’s greenhouse, Shakespeare garden, and Sunset Lake, designed especially for employees—new and seasoned alike. Connect with facilities employees while learning more about some of Vassar’s gardens and landscapes.

The supervisor sprint is a professional development opportunity for anyone who supervises employees at Vassar, including student employees. Join us for a series of interactive workshops across five days to develop skills setting expectations, making operational decisions, navigating conflict, providing feedback and coaching.

We encourage individuals who register commit to attending as much of the training in full as possible in order to have the ability to engage with each topic and get to know other sprint participants. However, we understand that may not be feasible for all employees, and just ask you notify us via this form or via email if you need to miss any portion.

Info Session with Q&A (Virtual)

  • Wednesday, September 10, 2:00–3:00pm, via Zoom

Employee Communities (ECs), formerly known as ERGs, help foster connection, support, and belonging at work. Join us in person for a drop-in style Open House, or attend the virtual Info Session for a live overview and Q&A. Both options will give you the chance to learn about the EC program, explore existing groups, and find out how to join or start one of your own. This is an opportunity to gather resources and reflect on how ECs can enrich your experience at Vassar.
