As we shared at the September forums and Faculty Meeting, there are three new policies that impact how we engage in our work as a community. We are inviting participation in a policy information session, sharing how to access the policies in full, and providing information about some frequently asked questions to support transparency as we implement these policies.

New Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy
Vassar College established the Driver and Motor Vehicle Policy to acknowledge the necessity of vehicles in supporting the College’s operations and programs, while also ensuring compliance with legal and insurance requirements.
The policy is designed to balance these obligations with a clear commitment to safety for drivers, passengers, and the campus community. By setting consistent standards and responsibilities, the College seeks to promote safe practices and accountability whenever vehicles are used for Vassar business.
This policy sets forth who may drive official Vassar vehicles, registration requirements, and expectations for the safe operation of all vehicles used for Vassar business--including everything from passenger cars to golf carts and cranes.

New Workplace Dog Policy
This policy aims to promote a safe and inclusive work environment for all students and employees, including individuals with allergies or discomfort around dogs, and to manage the risks that may arise when dogs share spaces or come into contact wtih one another.
Updated Leave of Absence Policy
We have revised the scope of employment protection available to Vassar employees in relation to taking leaves. Vassar’s policy must comply with all state and federal guidelines protecting employment, but we can be more generous than those laws stipulate. This policy outlines the employment protection that we make available to members of our community and how those protections will be applied.
