Please be advised that Vassar College is experiencing a cluster of gastroenteritis cases involving nausea/vomiting and or diarrhea.

Please be advised that Western Connecticut State University located near Danbury Connecticut recently experienced a Norovirus outbreak. Norovirus is a germ that spreads quickly and easily within a residential community. It causes vomiting and diarrhea that come on suddenly. Many people get ill with this virus each year. Norovirus is contagious from symptom onset and up to 72 hours after symptoms have resolved and it is important to pay particular attention to good hygiene practices to prevent spreading.

The Influenza season started early this year and has rapidly become widespread with high numbers of flu cases currently being reported in the U.S, New York State and Dutchess County. In view of the steady increase of this viral illness throughout the region the Health Service is sending out this notice to the Vassar community to highlight the preventive measures we can take against the flu.
