Pre-Health Advising

Vassar College

Pre-Health and STEM Advising Mission

The Mission of the Vassar Center for Career Education Pre-Health and STEM advising is to offer individualized and inclusive advising to all students and alums interested in learning more about health and STEM careers and how to move along the path toward that career goal. The office encourages students to have a comprehensive approach to education, skill development, and character for engaged citizenship and a career of service to the community and their profession.

Pre-Health and STEM advising staff value students and their individual goals, personalities, gifts, and skills. We also value empowering students to be independent; research their plans; and critically analyze their goals, personal skills, academic record, levels of experience, and motivation for their post-Vassar goals. This is true even when students or alums choose non-health or non-STEM fields.

We strive to support students and alums from where they are, while looking ahead toward where they hope to go. We value helping our advisees grow into individuals who will practice their craft with integrity, intellectual curiosity, and creativity while living purposeful lives of engaged citizenship. Finally, we value diversity in all of its forms while working to actively advocate for and empower those who have been marginalized.

REMEMBER

Make plans to visit the Pre-Health and STEM advisor in the Career Center for Education (Main South 170) early. In fact, the first semester of your first year is not too soon if you already think that you might want to pursue a career in healthcare or a STEM field. You can make an appointment with Lisa Pace using Handshake or by calling the office at (845) 437-5285.

If you are planning to apply to a health professions program in the upcoming year you should be in contact with Lisa as soon as possible - applications to health professions programs need to be submitted early, which for most programs is between April (PA School) and June (Medical, Dental and others). To learn more details, please look through the pages linked to this one - and see Lisa!
