Vassar College

Cultivate mind-body harmony and emotional well-being.

Welcome!

We invite you to join us to learn and practice techniques to come into a state of coherence, or mind-body harmony.

In the program, you will:

  • Learn about the mind-body connection, and the role of breathing and the heart in stress management
  • Practice exercises such as breathing and cultivating positive emotions
  • Be trained to use the interactive biofeedback software to monitor your levels of coherence as you engage in these exercises

These simple yet effective stress management techniques can help you to:

  • Calm the mind and body
  • Increase your ability to focus and engage in creative problem solving
  • Experience an overall sense of wellbeing
  • Navigate stressors - whether personal, academic, or professional- with more evenness or equanimity

Just like developing and refining any skill, these techniques work best when practiced regularly.  The value of using emWave software is that it can help you to train more effectively in these practices, to “perfect” your technique, similar to working with a trainer at a gym, or with an academic mentor.

Check out this article for a preview of some of what you’ll learn in the program!

How it works

You can access the emWave software on your own throughout the semester by scheduling self-guided 30-minute practice sessions in these locations on campus; AEO, Library 2nd floor charging station, Athletics, SGE lounge, and Metcalf.

How do I schedule a Biofeedback session?

You can sign up at one of the locations listed above in the "How it works" section, to check out the materials and practice biofeedback using the emave program; instructions are listed next to each laptop or computer. Health Promotion and Education has collaborated with Counseling Service to offer this program. If you would like more in-depth training on the program, you may contact one of the Wellness Peer Educators or Counseling Service to schedule a training session.
