Counseling Service

Vassar College

Vassar College Counseling Service counselors are available to assist in mental health-related crises. We have a Counselor-on-call available 24 hours a day (when residence houses are open to all students) to provide support. In some urgent situations, the appropriate person to contact may be someone other than the Counselor-on-call.

Please see our Helping Yourself page to help you determine who to contact in various urgent situations.

Once you have determined that the Counselor-on-Call is the appropriate contact, you can reach the Counselor-on-Call by contacting:

  • Vassar College Counseling Service at (845) 437-5700 on weekdays from 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
During normal working hours, members of the Vassar community may request a brief contact with a counselor to discuss urgent situations. Please indicate to our administrative assistant that you need to speak to the Crisis Counselor.
  • Campus Response Center at (845) 437-7333 after hours.
Convey that you wish to speak with the ProtoCall Counselor-on-call. Callers should be aware that calls made to the Campus Response Center are logged routinely as part of the emergency system and thus are not as private as calls made directly to the Counseling Service. ProtoCall is an off-site provider for mental health support and all calls are answered by a Masters- or Ph.D./PsyD-level mental health professional. Vassar College Counselors provide back-up support to ProtoCall Services.
