The Steven J. Hueglin ’74 Media Studies Internship

The Steven J. Hueglin ’74 Media Studies Internship was established in 2005 by Marjorie Hueglin in honor of her son Steven J. Hueglin ’74. The contributors to the Steven J. Hueglin Endowment Fund at Vassar College hope that these grants will help students to gain experiences in media-related workplaces that complement their academic work and assist in their professional development. The funds are restricted to supporting summer internships. They will be awarded to students whose financial circumstances make them unable to pursue the opportunity without this support. The Fund will contribute toward expenses such as travel, living expenses, or other costs related to the internship. Student recipients will be asked to provide a brief written report to the donor of the Fund at the completion of their internships.

Prior to applying for a Hueglin Internship grant, students are encouraged to consult with the Media Studies Program Director to discuss the proposed internship. If you are interested in applying for a Hueglin Internship grant, you should prepare an application that includes the following:

1. A written statement describing your proposed internship or workplace-based project and the relevance of the project to your broader curricular plan.

2. A summary of the funding you are requesting. Information about how to put together a budget can be found here: Budget Forms

3. The name of one faculty reference who is able to assess your preparedness for the project.

The purpose of the Steven J. Hueglin ’74 Fund is to provide resources for students of Media Studies who wish to pursue experiences in media-related workplace environments. Grants are available to support student experiences in a wide range of media-related workplaces, including internships, fieldwork, or other professional positions during the summer. The primary criterion for evaluating funding requests is the project’s support of the student’s curricular plan in Media Studies.

Applications will be limited to Media Studies majors, and will be reviewed by the Program Director, in consultation with the Media Studies Steering Committee.
