Personal Property

Insurance

The College does not provide insurance for damage or loss to residents’ property. You should arrange for coverage of all property you bring to campus and into your residence. You may have coverage through the homeowner’s or renter’s policy for the household which serves as your permanent address. Check with your existing policy for more information. Renter’s insurance is available to individuals through most insurance companies and other specialized companies. You can find contact information for companies specializing in college populations on the Student Financial Services’ website.

Storage

There is no summer storage space available in the residences; however, we do provide information about area storage companies during the spring semester.

Campus Storage

  • Step 1: Select a convenient date and time for in-room pickup of your belongings.
  • Step 2: We provide and ship all packing materials if needed, including 5 boxes, tape, a Sharpie, and bubble wrap.
  • Step 3: Focus on finals while our professional movers do the heavy lifting.
  • Step 4: We carry your belongings up and down stairs at no extra cost.
  • Step 5: Your belongings are stored in our local climate-controlled storage facility.
  • Step 6: In-room delivery to your new residence is included at no extra cost in the fall.

McCollister’s: U-Pass

  • Our student storage service makes end-of-semester move-out easy, organized, and stress-free. The process begins with a virtual survey to review items and confirm student contact information. Our team then professionally packs belongings using proper cartons and protective materials, separating items for summer storage or shipment home if requested.
  • During packing, we prepare the room by packing desk items, drawers, and closets while removing food and safely disposing of liquids or other restricted items. Each shipment is inventoried and labeled with the student’s name for accurate tracking. Items are picked up directly from the dorm room and transported to our secure warehouse, where they are palletized and tracked through our Warehouse Management System.
  • When the fall semester begins—or after study abroad—belongings are delivered to the student’s new dorm room assignment. Optional long-distance shipping to a home residence is also available upon request.

Laundry Service

For the 2020–2021 academic year, Vassar College and E&R—The Campus Laundry will once again partner to provide weekly pick-up and drop-off laundry services to all interested students. E&R (providers of first-rate laundry service at New England preparatory schools, colleges, and universities for over 50 years) offers a variety of plans that meet all wardrobes and budgets and are designed to allow students to focus on their academics and/or make the most of their limited free time.
